An LSIS review of qualifications for teachers and trainers in the further education and skills sector was undertaken in 2012. The proposal for an award at Level 3 was supported as part of a suite of generic teaching and training qualifications including certificate and diploma qualifications. More information about the findings of the review can be found in the report Further Education and Skills in England: New Qualifications for Teachers and Trainers: Phase Two – Findings Report (LSIS, 2013).

 

This qualification replaces the Active IQ Level 3 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (QCF) 600/2397/1

Achieving the qualification will provide sufficient evidence that an individual has acquired the necessary skills and knowledge to enable them to teach beyond an initial year in the FE sector.

Entry requirements
Learners must be 19 + and do not need to be in a teaching role however learners do need to be competent in the area in which they wish to teach.

Qualification structure and credit value
Learners must achieve 12 credits to gain this qualification

  • 3 credits must come from group A
  • 6 credits from group B
  • 3 credits from group C
