ILM Level 5 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring

This Level 5 Certificate in Coaching & Mentoring in Management Qualification is accredited by the ILM - Institute of Leadership and Management, and is a vocationally related qualification (VRQ).

The Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring in Management aims to provide practising managers with the skills they need to perform effectively as coaches or mentors as part of their normal work role. The programme is made up of three units which enable participants to understand, develop and demonstrate knowledge and skills in workplace coaching and mentoring.

In the first unit participants explore the characteristics of effective coaches and mentors, going on to present a business case for using coaching or mentoring in their organisation. In the second unit participants review their own ability as amanagement coach or mentor, exploring their ethical and moral views as well as communication skills. During the final unit participants plan and deliver a short coaching or mentoring programme in line with their organisational, divisional or team goals.

Who is this for?

This qualification is aimed at providing practising managers will a strong set of coaching skills.  It is a very versatile qualification and may be the choice of learners who do not have a formal qualification in team leading or first line management, but who have several years experience and completed some formal training in the role.

What are the benefits?

This course will provide you with a practical grounding and understanding of the differences between coaching and mentoring; and the purpose, role and contribution of coaching and mentoring to development of individuals and organisations.  It is designed to develop your capability as a leader to influence, guide and develop those around you through the power of coaching.

By the end of the course you will have:

Developed an excellent knowledge and understanding of the behaviours, characteristics, skills, attitudes and values required of a coach and/or mentor.

Developed effective listening, questioning and feedback skills.

Picked up a range of coaching tools and techniques.

Understood the personal and organisational barriers to coaching and mentoring in the workplace and how these can be minimised or overcome.

Understood the planning and preparation for a coaching and/or mentoring session, including the role of contracting

Undertaken 12 hours supervised coaching and or mentoring.

Reviewed and reflected on your own abilities and performance as coaches and/or mentors.

Undertaken a self assessment of your own skills and development.

The ILM Level 5 Certificate in Executive Coaching and Leadership Mentoring is made up of three mandatory units:

In the first mandatory unit participants critically review their own ability to perform effectively as a leadership mentor or executive coach, engaging in peer mentoring to seek feedback and advice on individual performance.

In the second unit participants critically review the role and contribution of coaching and mentoring to individuals and organisations. During the final mandatory unit participants plan, deliver and review at least 12 hours of leadership mentoring or executive management.
